Hola!! Today was our first full day in Nicaragua. We woke up this morning, ate some pancakes, and then had our devotion and quiet time. Quiet time consisted of reading a given scripture, praying, and swatting the mosquitos that were eating us alive. We then had orientation where we learned about the Nicaraguan culture and their different gestures. Such as kissing a cheek when saying hello or goodbye. Emily found that one out last night when she was saying goodbye to someone. Needless to say, she was surprised. Learning about the culture was really interesting. After we ate hotdogs for lunch, we went to our ministry sites for an orientation. Everyone seemed to have a great time and are excited to actually start participating. For supper we had rice with vegetables and many different kinds of meat in it. It was very good. We just had cultural night and that is where they showed us the traditional dress of the Nicaraguan's, they taught us how to dance a traditional Nicaraguan dance, and we also ate many different types of food. We tried callala (passion fruit), tamales, a drink made of corn and cocoa, and many other fruits and foods. It is 8 p.m. here but everyone is acting like its 12 a.m. We are all tired still, but the boys can't give up an opportunity to swim, so they are about to get in the pool. Everyone is doing well and is healthy. The plants and trees are all very pretty. A lot of trees have fruit growing on them which is really cool to see. We all miss you guys!!
Adios,
Anna
